It is essential to know that the Thermopliers are heated to the correct temperature. If they are too hot, they will puncture the plastic. If they are too cool, the plastic will simply stretch and the "bump" will collapse when the appliance is seated.

Use a Hakko thermometer to determine the temperature of the tips.

As long as the reading is above or below the desired temperature (A Plastic = 175ºF/79.4ºC; C+ Plastic = 200ºF/93.3ºC) by 5ºF or 3ºC, the pliers are ready to use.

If the clinician feels the retainer is too loose, the hex screw supplied with pliers should be used to adjust the pliers to the desired depth.
